Re: Re: Things Indifferent and Paul's Teaching in Romans 14

Ron,
Thanks! Actually regarding those who advocate teetotalism, they are a mixed bunch. That is, some simply believe it to be unwise while others do actually see it as something evil in itself. For example, some who abstain believe that the wine Jesus made was a type of spiritual wine, etc. Also, I will write about this a bit more fully later, but Mohler and Moore tip their hand a bit, when they talk about one of the reasons for abstaining being the havoc that beverage alcohol has brought on countless families. This seems to me very similar to the gun-control argument, that since guns cause so much damage, then they should be banned. But this misses the point entirely, and also causes me to wonder about Southern's position. Do they really believe alcohol to be indifferent? Or do they see it as dangerous? I would respond that alcohol and guns are not the problem. The problem is the heart. The heart has used alcohol in God-dishonoring ways. But let's not blame the indifferent thing, let's place the blame on the moral agent, the man or woman who becomes enslaved to alcohol. Thanks, Ron!
