This is a new thought, but it has been growing within me for sometime, so I am not married to it, but I am thinking about it, so I thought I would put it up here for comment.

What I am thinking right now is how strange and biblically foreign our mode of conversion is in many Evangelical churches or assemblies.  For example, most will end an evangelistic sermon with a call to pray a 'simple prayer.'

Instead of doing this, what I am thinking is that a more 'biblical' approach to conversion would be to call on people to turn from their rebellion against God, and confess Jesus is King (Messiah) and Lord, and be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Spirit.

This, of course, would mean that we would need water readily available, but the benefit of having converts be baptized as a symbol of their confession of Jesus as King and Lord is that we would begin to build a generation of Christians who would better understand Romans 6, and what Paul is discussing there regarding association with Christ and baptism in his name.

Again, I am just beginning to think about this.  Any thoughts?
