James Jordan on the history of Halloween. Just thought it would be good to get this up here, since I referenced Challies blog about it.

As with all Christian celebrations, worldlings work at perverting them, so with All Saints Eve. It is good to remind others, such as James Jordan has done, what the eve is truly all about. Nevertheless, I fear the effort is little more than shouts into the wind, for it seems to me that long ago the eve was lost because of two things: (1) overly righteous people who had little sense of history to instruct their children about the true significance of Hallowe'en; and (2) people who were overly desirous to make money on a holiday by recasting it as they played on the titillating curiosities of humans concerning the realm of spirits and the bizarre. Perhaps within the spheres of our small influence we can redeem the eve for proper celebration.
